By Andrea Nagy
Andrea worked as an intern at Studio21 Architects during the summer and winter of 2016. She gained experience in AutoCAD Architecture, picking up redline drawings, floor plans, elevations, and demolition plans. She also was given the opportunity to do site visit to measure up existing buildings and produce as build drawings in AutoCAD Architecture. It gave her the opportunity to see many stages of an architectural project. Below is her resent experience on Studying aboard in Florence, Italy.
I recently finished my junior year at Kent State University where I am studying interior design. The spring before that I had the privilege of spending the semester studying abroad at Kent State’s Florence, Italy campus. I studied there from January until May and enjoyed studying architecture and interior design of historic Renaissance buildings. The architecture and artwork gave me a deeper understanding of what life was like during that time. It was inspiring to see the various European architectural styles that each city had to offer, especially the level of detail that was involved. I loved being able to see designs by Gaudi in Barcelona, the Dutch canal houses of Amsterdam and historical Renaissance Florence to name a few.
During my time abroad, I was also lucky enough to travel to 20 cities within eight countries. As a Chicago-area native and die-hard Cubs fan, I decided to travel with a piece of home and bring the W flag with me to each place I went. This flag has been to Wrigley Field and was even with me at Game 7 of the World Series this past October when the Cubs won at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Now, it’s traveled all over Europe too!
Andrea recently return to visit our office and share her experience with us. We wish her much success as she moves forward in her career in Interior Design.
